El Salvador presented its progress in security, stability, and development during the 56th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held in Panama. The delegation emphasized that these achievements have contributed to strengthening investment attraction, tourism growth, and the modernization of services in the country.
The salvadoran delegation was headed by Ambassador Wendy Acevedo, Permanent Representative to the OAS, who stated that improvements in citizen security have created more favorable conditions for economic and social development.
During her remarks, the diplomat noted that the stability achieved in the country has boosted investor confidence, in addition to fostering tourism development and strengthening essential services. She also said that one of the main challenges for the inter-American system is to deliver concrete results for the population.
“The most important challenge facing the Inter-American system is accepting that citizens do not evaluate our institutions by our intentions, but by our results”, Acevedo said, urging the strengthening of institutions capable of generating opportunities, guaranteeing security, and building trust.
As part of its participation in the meeting, El Salvador officially assumed the Marco Integral Regional para la Protección y Soluciones (MIRPS) for 2026. In this role, it will promote four priorities: strengthening national asylum systems, promoting durable solutions and socioeconomic inclusion, addressing displacement related to climate change, and reinforcing regional cooperation.
The OAS General Assembly brought together representatives from 34 member states to discuss issues related to democracy, security, human rights, development, and cooperation. For salvadoran authorities, this forum allowed them to position the country on the regional agenda, showcase their progress, and strengthen cooperative relationships with other nations of the continent.
