Government authorities, led by Vice President Félix Ulloa Jr., along with minister of Finance Jerson Posada and Director General of Customs Benjamín Mayorga, launched the construction of the Centro Integrado de Inteligencia Aduanera (CIIA), an innovative infrastructure that will strengthen the control and modernization of the customs system in El Salvador.
The CIIA will be in San Bartolo and will concentrate national control of electronic and customs security, with the goal of automating, supervising, and streamlining merchandise clearance processes at all customs offices in the country, integrating surveillance, risk analysis, and operational management functions to strengthen institutional efficiency and transparency.

“This project demonstrates the government’s commitment to technological innovation and transparency in public processes, ensuring safer and more efficient trade”, emphasized Vice President Félix Ulloa Jr.

Finance minister Jerson Posada emphasized that the CIIA will allow for more efficient customs operations: “This center reflects our commitment to offering practical, accessible, and timely solutions for our staff and users”.
Director Benjamín Mayorga also explained that the new center will feature state-of-the-art technology: “The new center includes substance and explosive detectors, X-ray image analysis systems, artificial intelligence for risk management, RFID technology, and QR codes to improve merchandise traceability. Additionally, it will incorporate a comprehensive national video surveillance system and the use of drones to monitor operations in real time”.

The CIIA will cover all land, air, sea, and internal customs offices, contributing to the fight against smuggling, increasing transparency in inspections, and strengthening border security.
“This modernization will also greatly benefit the private sector, with whom we will continue to coordinate efforts to take El Salvador where we want it to be. We know they are an important pillar for our country’s economic growth and development, so this work has also been designed with them in mind”, said minister Jerson Posada.

Along these lines, during the event, a technological cooperation agreement was signed with various companies that will help equip and modernize the CIIA, as part of the vision of joint work between the central government and the private sector.

With the construction of the CIIA, El Salvador Customs reaffirms its commitment to innovation, security, and transparency, promoting modern customs management aligned with international trade facilitation standards.
