El Salvador maintains a consistently high flow of migration throughout the year, according to Ricardo Cucalón, director general of Migración y Extranjería, who spoke during a television interview. Official data shows that between january 1 and december 16, 13,795,360 migration movements were recorded, including entries into and exits from the country.
The official explained that these figures confirm a shift in the country’s migration dynamics, as the country no longer prepares only for specific seasons, such as the end of the year or holidays, but maintains its operational capacity year-round to meet the demand.
Given this consistent trend, the general directorate of Migration has reinforced its annual planning, with staff and services available year-round. Regarding the holiday season, Cucalón specified that regular hours will be maintained on december 26 at the Cascadas, San Miguel, Usulután, and Santa Ana branches. On december 27, service will be concentrated solely at the Cascadas branch, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In addition, Migration operates an express window at Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador, exclusively for emergencies or last-minute situations related to passport issuance. This service maintains the regular cost of US$25, with no additional charges.
The director general emphasized that, despite the high volume of people entering and leaving the country, strict compliance with immigration regulations is maintained, especially regarding exit permits for minors. In these cases, he warned that if the documentation does not comply with the law, departure from the country will not be authorized, even if there is high demand.
The figures presented reflect a constant flow of people, both salvadorans and foreign visitors, which requires authorities to operate with consistently high standards of efficiency and control. This trend solidifies the country as an active transit point and destination throughout the year, beyond the traditional peak seasons.
