The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, will participate this saturday in the regional summit called “Shield of the Americas”, convened by US President Donald Trump, which will take place in Miami. The meeting will bring together leaders from twelve Latin American countries with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation on economic matters, security, and development.
The meeting is part of a Washington strategy to consolidate alliances with governments in the region and promote a cooperation bloc focused on boosting economic growth, stability, and security in the hemisphere. Among the invited countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago, in addition to El Salvador.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that the initiative seeks to promote “freedom, security, and prosperity” in the region through greater collaboration among the participating countries.
El Salvador on the regional agenda
El Salvador’s participation in this meeting places the country among the group of Latin American nations seeking to strengthen their political and economic ties with the United States. During the summit, the leaders are expected to discuss strategies to bolster trade, attract investment, and expand cooperation in key sectors.
They will also address issues related to regional security, including combating drug trafficking, fighting criminal organizations, and finding solutions to irregular migration—problems affecting several countries in the region.

The meeting will also provide a forum for direct dialogue between regional leaders and the U.S. administration, which could open opportunities for new cooperation agreements and development initiatives.
Geopolitical context of the meeting
The summit is taking place at a time of increasing international competition for economic and strategic influence in Latin America. In this context, the United States seeks to reinforce its presence in the region and strengthen its relations with allied governments.
One of the central themes of the meeting will be the protection of natural resources, trade routes, and strategic productive sectors in the hemisphere. In this context, Washington intends to promote agreements that facilitate investment and trade with participating countries.

This vision is part of U.S. foreign policy aimed at consolidating regional alliances in areas such as security, the economy, and technological development.
A space for hemispheric cooperation
The “Shield of the Americas” summit seeks to lay the groundwork for greater coordination among participating countries, with the purpose of promoting joint initiatives that contribute to economic growth and regional stability.
For El Salvador, participation in this forum represents an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with the United States and other countries in the Americas, as well as to promote cooperation on security, trade, and investment issues that will impact the country’s development.
