The New Year began in El Salvador with an atmosphere of community and joy in public spaces that, in recent years, have been transformed for the safe enjoyment of the population. Plazas, streets, and historic centers once again became meeting points for families, young people, and adults who participated in cultural activities organized to welcome 2026.
This january 1st, thousands of people attended a festive day that combined music, dance, and an artistic parade, reflecting the revitalization of community life in the capital. The main event was led by Banda El Salvador, an artistic project that brought together young musicians from across the country and has become a symbol of celebration and civic participation.
The parade began in Plaza Salvador del Mundo and proceeded along major avenues of San Salvador, concluding at the Christmas village in the Historic Center. During the procession, attendees accompanied the parade with applause and displays of enthusiasm, turning the activity into a meeting place where music served as a link between the artists and the public.

The Banda El Salvador is made up of approximately 1,000 young people from different parts of the country. During the event, they performed a varied repertoire that included popular and traditional pieces, adding a festive and welcoming atmosphere to the celebration. The spectacle was complemented by the participation of the Ballet Folclórico Nacional and Compañía Nacional de Danza which added color and movement to the parade.
The Ministry of Culture emphasized that this project aims to strengthen the artistic training of young people and bring art closer to the population. According to cultural authorities, initiatives like this allow young people to develop their talent and, at the same time, allow the public to learn about and appreciate the work being done in the cultural sphere at the national level.

The celebration also attracted the attention of foreign visitors. Some tourists noted that they came across the parade unexpectedly and highlighted the festive and well-organized atmosphere that filled the streets of the country at the start of the new year.
With this activity, now in its third consecutive year, the State reaffirms its commitment to art and culture as tools for strengthening social cohesion and the positive use of public spaces. The start of 2026 was thus marked by music, citizen participation, and a message of hope, in an environment that reflects changes in the way people live and celebrate in El Salvador.
