The tourism sector is consolidating its position as one of the main generators of foreign exchange for the salvadoran economy, with estimated revenues of US$3.5 billion and sustained growth in international visitor arrivals. In this context, the inauguration of five new direct routes by Frontier Airlines between El Salvador and the United States strengthens the country’s air connectivity and expands opportunities for tourism, investment, and trade in services.
The new routes connect Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez” with Washington (Dulles), Miami, Houston, Orlando, and Dallas, in addition to the existing flight to Atlanta. With these additions, Frontier will have six routes operating from the country, increasing air competition and offering more options for passengers and businesses in the sector.

The president of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), Federico Anliker, emphasized that this expansion reflects the vision of strengthening air connectivity and capitalizing on the country’s current momentum in terms of confidence, security, and infrastructure. Initial frequencies include daily flights to Washington, three weekly flights to Miami and Houston, two to Dallas, and one weekly flight to Orlando, with plans for increased service as demand grows.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, as of december 14, El Salvador had received 3.8 million international visitors, nearing its annual target of 4 million. The United States accounts for approximately 1.2 million of these arrivals, primarily from the states now connected by the new routes, reinforcing the direct impact of the air service expansion on tourism.
Tourism minister Morena Valdez noted that improved connectivity has been crucial in attracting visitors not only from the United States, but also from other countries in the region and Europe, contributing to the growth of tourism as an economic pillar and its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product.

Frontier Airlines highlighted that El Salvador has the largest number of new routes in Central America as part of its regional expansion plan, reflecting the airline’s confidence in the salvadoran market and the conditions the country offers for the development of air transport.
The opening of these routes facilitates the mobility of the salvadoran diaspora, boosts sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and commerce, and strengthens El Salvador’s integration with major international markets, consolidating tourism as a key driver of national economic growth.
