The Government of El Salvador, through the Ministry of Labor, has activated a comprehensive nationwide labor inspection plan for the start of the August vacation period. According to Ministry Minister Rolando Castro, this operation involves more than 700 employees strategically deployed throughout the country, with the goal of verifying compliance with labor regulations and protecting workers’ rights.

The minister stated that the inspections will be conducted exhaustively and objectively, with a special focus on ensuring that vacation days are paid as established by law. “This vacation period, like others, is an opportune time to guarantee workers’ rights”, Castro said, underscoring the government’s firm commitment to defending labor rights, even during the holiday season.

Likewise, the Ministry of Labor has identified sectors that require greater oversight due to specific complaints. Therefore, verification will be prioritized in those areas where irregularities have historically been recorded, thus ensuring that employees receive fair treatment in accordance with the current legal framework.

Castro also clarified that, while the August Holidays are more important in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, the 3rd and 5th are holidays for the private sector in that area, while the 6th is a national holiday, which will be one of the control bases for the inspections.
The deployment includes specific inspections in the hotel industry’s production chain, where it will be verified that workers’ tips are delivered as established by the Labor Code. “Many hotels used to keep tips, but now, thanks to our inspections, that no longer happens. We will verify that payments are made within the legal period of 15 days”, the official stated.
