The Government of El Salvador, through the Corporación Salvadoreña de Turismo (Corsatur), reaffirmed its commitment to economic revitalization and strengthening tourism in the eastern region of the country through initiatives that promote sports, investment, and healthy recreation. This was stated by Corsatur Director Alejandra Durán during the press conference announcing the “Desafío Surf City 2” sporting event.
The race will take place on august 17 at La Ventana, El Toro, and El Cuco beaches, located within the Surf City 2 project. Durán emphasized that these types of activities highlight the natural wealth and tourism potential of eastern El Salvador, especially when accompanied by road infrastructure, basic services, and digital connectivity.
The “Desafío Surf City 2” will bring together more than 800 runners on a course starting at the Hotel de Sol a Sol, on El Toro beach, and covering distances of five, ten, and fifteen kilometers. The event will feature a security team coordinated by the National Civil Protection System to ensure the safety of participants and attendees.
During the event, Juan de Dios, representative of Running Free, thanked President Nayib Bukele for his vision for the country and the institutional support that has made it possible to transform previously marginalized areas into safe environments for sports tourism and family gatherings, thanks to the Plan Control Territorial.
During this visit, the director of Corsatur also swore in the Comité de Desarrollo Turístico (CDT) a legal entity that seeks to promote joint projects between the private sector and the State to foster tourism growth, local training, and job creation in the area.
Durán also toured strategic locations in Chinameca, where he highlighted the role of at least 15 tourism companies that generate more than 250 direct jobs in services such as food, lodging, and coffee experiences. The destination has gained notoriety among domestic visitors and tourists from Canada, the United States, and Honduras, consolidating its position as a key area for the economic development of eastern El Salvador.
