The Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOP) reported that the Carretera Los Chorros will remain closed from may 5 to 11, due to the instability of the land caused by recent rains. Minister Romeo Rodríguez assured that the step will not be reopened until the savior safety of salvadorans is completely guaranteed.

Despite the questions about the use of dynamite to expedite the works, Rodríguez explained that the type of soil, predominantly sandy, requires controlled and precise cuts by specialized machinery. Stabilization work will be carried out uninterruptedly during the 24 hours.
Given the closing of this important route, the authorities urge drivers to use alternate routes and follow the indications issued by the MOP and Civil Protection.

In another relevant announcement, Minister Romeo Rodríguez offered a press conference to inform that, on the instructions of President Nayib Bukele, public passenger transport will be free from this day. This measure seeks to relieve the impact of road closure and support the user population of the transport system.
Rodríguez also said that the government is up to date with economic compensation for transport entrepreneurs. “For the first time in the history of the country, a government is 100 % with compensation. All this was already spoken with businessmen and today we will meet again on the subject”, he said.

In addition, the minister warned that measures will be taken against carriers who do not provide the service properly. “We cannot allow users to remain affected. Public transport must circulate normally”, he emphasized.
