In a meeting with representatives of 35 municipalities from all over the country, the Minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, highlighted the importance of the Municipal Administrative Career Law and its relation with labor stability. During the meeting, they also discussed the salary arrears affecting municipal employees and the failure to send legal discounts to the relevant institutions. Castro emphasized that compliance with the law is fundamental and that everyone must assume their responsibilities without exceptions.
The minister assured that the Ministry of Labor will continue to monitor and combat abuses and illegalities in this area. He warned that many of these infractions can be considered serious, and even of a criminal nature, and mentioned that there are already precedents in the country that show the seriousness of the situation. With a firm commitment, Castro reaffirmed that actions will continue to be taken to protect the labor rights of municipal workers.
Castro also denounced illegal practices in some mayors’ offices, pointing out that firing a worker under the administrative career law is illegal. In addition, he warned about the withholding of salaries by certain mayors, which, according to article 245, is a crime. He urged affected workers to go to the Ministry of Labor to seek assistance.
The minister detailed previous actions that have been taken in defense of employees, such as the elimination of fraudulent contracts. He informed that probationary period contracts should not exceed three months, ensuring greater protection for workers.
Likewise, he expressed his concern for the delay in the payment of salaries by some municipalities, describing it as intolerable. He emphasized that these irregularities seriously affect employees and their welfare.
At the closing of the event, certificates of the National Registry of the Municipal Administrative Career were delivered to the workers present, reaffirming the commitment of the Ministry of Labor with the formalization and protection of labor rights in the country.
