The Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR) of El Salvador is on a mission to strengthen national tourism through its rich gastronomy, forging strategic partnerships that position the country as a first-class destination. This approach seeks to boost the economy by leveraging local cuisine as a key attraction for visitors from around the world.

Recently, a Salvadoran delegation met with representatives of Peru’s Centro de Formación en Turismo (Centofur) for a fruitful exchange of culinary experiences. This meeting, led by the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, and the Director of the International Cooperation Agency, Karla de Palma, marks a significant step toward elevating the quality of the country’s gastronomic offerings.

The collaboration opens a range of opportunities for young people participating in the Gastro Lab project in the Surf City area. By exposing them to Peruvian cuisine, one of the most renowned in the world, they are given the tools to hone their skills and bring local gastronomy to new and higher international standards, benefiting the population and boosting the economy.

The Gastro Lab initiative not only promotes tourism development but also addresses important public policies. According to the director of the ESCO, this project prevents migration by creating employment opportunities for young people and encouraging women’s participation. The economic dynamic generated directly benefits families, farmers, and local communities.

As part of the meeting, authorities visited the Gastro Lab Surf City facilities, where plans were discussed to replicate the model in other regions of the country, such as the northern region. With these efforts, El Salvador is moving forward decisively in building a new, comprehensive and attractive tourist destination that will delight visitors with its culture and exceptional culinary offerings.
