The Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOPT) is constructing a new double-cell box culvert bridge in the Villa Lourdes neighborhood of Colón, in the La Libertad region. This priority project will restore connectivity and ensure the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles in the area.
The project arose after the collapse of the previous bridge, caused by the intense rains of 2025, which directly affected the mobility of hundreds of families who use this road as their main connection. While the permanent bridge is under construction, the MOPT installed a temporary structure that has allowed traffic to continue and reduced the impact on the daily lives of residents.

The new infrastructure is designed to offer greater resistance and durability against extreme weather events. The double-cell system allows for efficient river flow through the lower section, reducing the risk of flooding, while the upper surface ensures a stable route for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
In addition, as part of the project, cyclopean concrete footings are being installed in the Colón River channel, reinforcing the bottom and sides to prevent erosion and strengthen the foundation that will support the bridge. These actions aim to extend the structure’s lifespan and provide greater safety for nearby communities.

With this project, President Nayib Bukele’s administration reaffirms its commitment to modern and resilient infrastructure, aimed at improving mobility, strengthening road connectivity, and contributing to the social and economic development of La Libertad Oeste.
