First Lady Gabriela de Bukele laid the cornerstone of the Centro de Maternidad Nacer con Cariño “El Nido”, a project that, in addition to transforming healthcare, will generate 2,000 jobs for professionals both within and outside the country.
According to the First Lady, these positions will be geared toward strengthening a new model of maternal and perinatal care, with highly trained personnel. To this end, a national and international call for applications will be launched to attract talent and train specialists under standards that combine scientific evidence and compassionate care.
Employment and specialized training
The project not only seeks to expand healthcare coverage but also to boost employment in the healthcare sector, incorporating professionals in various medical, technical, and comprehensive care areas.
The First Lady emphasized that the goal is to standardize services and improve the quality of care, ensuring that staff receive training aligned with the “Nacer con Cariño”, model, which prioritizes the experience of families during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.

A new model of maternal care
“El Nido” is part of the implementation of the Ley Nacer con Cariño, an initiative that seeks to transform how mothers and their babies are cared for within the healthcare system.
According to the explanation given, this model arose from the need to change traditional practices that did not always guarantee optimal conditions, now opting for an approach that places the mother, the newborn, and their family environment at the center.
Modern infrastructure and comprehensive care
The center will have two towers designed to provide comprehensive care:
• Tower 1: dedicated to pregnancy support, with prenatal education, specialized consultation rooms, and training for healthcare professionals.
• Tower 2: focused on the birthing process, with delivery rooms, private rooms, specialized areas, and a Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales (UCIN) with family access.
Each space has been designed to enhance the family experience, ensuring appropriate conditions and high-quality services.

Impact on families and the healthcare system
In addition to job creation, the project aims to raise the level of maternal and perinatal care in El Salvador, becoming a national and regional benchmark.
Authorities stated that this center will allow for more humane, safe, and modern services, contributing to the well-being of mothers, newborns, and their families.
With the construction of “El Nido” the country is advancing in the consolidation of a healthcare model that combines modern infrastructure, specialized talent, and person-centered care, marking an important step in the transformation of the healthcare system.
