President Nayib Bukele shared a video on his social media accounts showcasing the new arrivals terminal at Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez. The project, carried out by the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) represents a US$50 million investment, entirely funded by the institution’s own resources.
During the event, CEPA President Federico Anliker emphasized that the project is part of an investment portfolio exceeding $320 million, aimed at the comprehensive modernization of the country’s main airport.
The new infrastructure will expedite passenger service, with the capacity to process up to 4,500 passengers per hour at immigration checkpoints. In addition, baggage handling capacity increased significantly, from 6,000 to 16,500 bags per hour, optimizing operating times at the airport terminal.
The project also incorporates new inspection scanners and support technology for the General Directorate of Customs, with the aim of strengthening controls and improving the efficiency of entry processes into the country.
Authorities announced future expansions at the airport, including the construction of six new boarding gates and a four-level parking garage that will double the current parking capacity.
The terminal also includes a dedicated surfboard carousel and a welcome area inspired by surf culture, as part of the effort to reinforce El Salvador’s tourism identity.
