U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will tour Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic from February 1-6. His visit aims to reinforce President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, focused on security, migration and strengthening economic cooperation in the region.
During his stay, Rubio will meet with senior officials and business leaders to discuss joint strategies in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking. In addition, he will promote measures to curb illegal migration to the United States, promoting security and economic development agreements.
Another key focus of the tour will be the strengthening of trade relations and investment in the region, in order to counteract the growing influence of China. Rubio will seek to strengthen strategic partnerships that will strengthen the economy and stability in the hemisphere.
With this visit, the Trump administration reaffirms its commitment to Central America and the Caribbean, prioritizing security, prosperity and regional cooperation under the “America First” vision.
