The Dirección de Obras Municipales has rebuilt a modern school center in the Santa Clara hamlet, district of San Luis Talpa, municipality of La Paz Oeste, to improve conditions for more than 860 students, from kindergarten to ninth grade.

With the focus of the Program to Improve the Calidad y Cobertura Educativa: Nacer, Crecer, Aprender, promoted by the First Lady, Gabriela de Bukele, the works began with the demolition of the old infrastructure, except for three classroom modules, an auditorium, and a multipurpose court, which have been rehabilitated. Four classroom modules were also completely rebuilt, two of them with two-level structures.

Thanks to the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the school has separate recreational areas for kindergarten and elementary school children, an infirmary, administrative offices, a management and teachers’ room, and laboratories.

There is also a perimeter wall, a roofed court, a multipurpose room, an auditorium, a kitchen-dining room, and restrooms, among other essential spaces.
The facilities also meet high safety and accessibility standards, incorporating signage on evacuation routes, access ramps, emergency lighting, meeting points and inclusive access for people with disabilities. In addition, a flag plaza, storage room, modules with thermo-acoustic covers, fans, LED lighting and free Internet have been integrated.

Focused on energy sustainability, the facilities have solar panels to produce energy for consumption, a cistern with pumping system, control booth, green areas, planters and grating, drainage system, sewage, rain and gray water treatment system, and tree planting.

With IDB cooperation, the DOM is also making progress in the reconstruction of the Santo Tomás school in San Luis Talpa. In addition, the National Road Repair Plan is transforming an access road to the Narváez neighborhood and is rehabilitating 1.5 kilometers of road in the El Chagüitón canton to benefit more than 3,000 inhabitants.

At the departmental level, the Directorate of Municipal Works is developing more than 46 projects, including five educational centers, the delivery of a health unit in the district of San Emigdio and the renovation of the sports center in the Altamira neighborhood in Cuyultitán. These projects have contributed significantly to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of La Paz Oeste.
