The Finance and Special Budget Committee issued a favorable opinion to exempt the importation of a container donated to the Punta Alta Baptist Church Mission in Guarjila from taxes. The shipment contains various items intended to benefit communities in the department of Chalatenango.
The exemption includes taxes such as the Import Duty (DAI), the Tax on the Transfer of Personal Property and the Provision of Services (VAT), and municipal taxes, as well as related warehousing costs.
The donation is valued at approximately $15,000 and includes items such as air conditioners, carpets, treadmills, pianos, pulpits, electric wheelchairs, monitors, televisions, industrial refrigerators, beds of different sizes, mattresses, stoves, chairs, desks, printers, and other equipment for social and community use.
All of these supplies are intended to meet the different needs of the Chalateca population.
The tax exemption for this donation is based on Article 1 of the Constitution of the Republic, which recognizes the human person as the origin and purpose of the State’s activity, and therefore requires citizens to be guaranteed access to fundamental rights such as health, liberty, culture, and social well-being.
Furthermore, with this initiative, the Legislative Branch reaffirms its commitment to supporting the work of community and religious organizations that carry out social work that directly benefits vulnerable groups.
