The Ministry of Labor of El Salvador, under the direction of Rolando Castro, closed 2024 with a series of initiatives that benefited thousands of salvadoran workers. During the year, the institution implemented policies and programs that not only expanded job opportunities, but also strengthened labor rights, setting a precedent in the country.
One of the most outstanding achievements was the “My First Job” program, which allowed young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to access their first formal job. This program, designed to offer experience and training, resulted in the insertion of hundreds of young people into the labor market, helping to reduce youth unemployment.
In addition, the Labor Migration program was strengthened, sending workers to Canada under legal conditions and with guaranteed benefits. This initiative not only boosted the economy of salvadoran families, but also promoted family reunification and the development of specialized skills.
The reactivation of the “Gira por el Empleo” was another key measure that connected job seekers with companies offering vacancies nationwide. At the same time, the strengthening of labor inspection ensured compliance with rights such as the payment of Christmas bonuses and respect for working hours. In this effort, the deployment of 700 inspectors was fundamental in recognizing companies with good practices.
Significant progress was also made in the area of occupational safety, with improvements in the response to occupational accidents and measures to ensure safer working conditions. These actions reflect the Ministry’s commitment to the well-being of workers.
Minister Castro closed the year reaffirming his commitment to labor justice and the creation of decent jobs. With the progress achieved in 2024, the Ministry of Labor is positioned as a key player in the economic and social development of El Salvador.
