The end of 2025 was marked by a significant increase in emergencies attended nationwide, with traffic accidents being the main reason for attention, according to the report presented at a press conference by Protección Civil. During the event, the institution’s director, Luis Alonso Amaya, presented the consolidated data on traffic accidents recorded between december 23 and 31, 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.
According to official data, 585 traffic accidents were recorded in the last days of December 2025, an increase compared to the 401 recorded in 2024. This increase was also reflected in the number of people affected, as injuries rose from 252 in 2024 to 414 in 2025. Despite the rise in traffic accidents, arrests for reckless driving decreased, with 60 recorded in 2025 compared to 73 in 2024.
Subsequently, the director of the Cuerpo de Bomberos de El Salvador, Baltazar Solano, presented the report on fires attended during the same period. According to his report, 52 fires were attended to nationwide on december 31, 2025 alone. No forest fires were reported that day, but increases were recorded in other types of emergencies.

Brush fires increased from 3 cases in 2024 to 35 in 2025, while structural fires rose from 4 to 12. Landfill fires increased from 2 to 4, and vehicle fires remained unchanged, with one case in both years.
The comparison from december 23 to 31 confirms a similar trend. Brush fires saw one of the largest increases, rising from 66 in 2024 to 117 in 2025. Vehicle fires increased from 14 to 17, and landfill fires from 18 to 22. In contrast, structural fires showed a slight reduction, falling from 36 to 32, and wildfires decreased from one in 2024 to none in 2025.

Regarding other types of emergencies, the Bomberos highlighted a reduction in propane gas leaks, which dropped from 15 cases in 2024 to 4 in 2025, as well as the absence of incidents related to fireworks in both periods evaluated.
Protección Civil and Cuerpo de Bomberos authorities agreed that the increase in emergencies during the end of 2025 is associated with the greater volume of traffic and the intensification of activities typical of the year-end festivities. Therefore, they reiterated their call to the public to drive responsibly and maintain preventive measures to reduce risks and protect lives.
