About 300 salvadorans, beneficiaries of the Labor Mobility Program, traveled to Alaska, to work in the United States on a temporary basis in the Obi Seafoods company, in fish processing.
This initiative, which is promoted by the Government of President Nayib Bukele, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Government of the United States, aims to facilitate various employability opportunities for the salvadoran population.

With these actions, the population can access various alternatives for growth and development to improve their quality of life, through a regular and circular migration, which will allow them to return to their community of origin and with their families once the period of temporary employment is over.

In this context, as part of the process they must follow, the beneficiaries participated in a “Preventive Protection Day for H-2 workers”, where they were given relevant details about their stay and labor commitments. As well as their labor rights and duties and important information for the development of their functions in the company.
Also, beneficiaries with an active job opportunity learned about the temporary worker’s friend line, a channel of communication and information with the Labor Mobility Program, which seeks to provide follow-up and support to the beneficiaries.

In addition, during the event, workers were advised to be aware of frauds and scams that people or external groups carry out pretending to be the Labor Mobility Program team. For this reason, the number 7070-1243 was shared as a channel for reporting and following up on these cases.

One of the beneficiaries, Rebeca Bonilla, from the department of La Libertad, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity. “I am happy and nervous, it is a great blessing to be part of this team. When I return I want to start a business”, she said.

“We are going to give everything at work; I am grateful for the opportunity that the company is giving us. It is an opportunity to improve our life here with family and friends. I have a restaurant and the intention is to make it bigger with what I manage to save and then invest it here”, said beneficiary José Manuel Hernández.
