The U.S. Embassy in El Salvador issued an alert to the salvadoran public regarding the circulation of misleading videos on social media. In these videos, alleged smugglers show groups of migrants crossing the border dressed in camouflage as an apparent strategy to avoid detection.
According to the diplomatic mission, this content is false and part of a strategy to attract clients by promoting human trafficking services. The embassy emphasized that these posts aim to create a false perception about the ease of crossing the border irregularly.
Deceptive videos to engage victims
The videos show people wearing military-style clothing as they move in groups through desert areas. According to the official warning, these images are intended to create the impression that there are effective methods for evading border controls.
However, the embassy stresses that this is manipulated or out-of-context information designed to convince people to pay for illegal border crossings.

Risks and deceptions
Authorities warn that so-called “coyotes” are only looking to obtain money through false promises. In many cases, those attempting to migrate irregularly are exposed to:
• Financial scams
• Dangerous situations during the journey
• Abandoning oneself in remote areas
• Legal risks and detentions
Furthermore, they emphasize that these criminal networks do not guarantee safe passage and often operate without any regard for the safety of the people they are transporting.
A more secure border
The U.S. Embassy in El Salvador reiterated that the U.S. border currently has increased controls and surveillance, significantly reducing the chances of irregular entry.

The message is clear: do not be deceived by this type of content, as the real conditions are very different from those shown in the videos.
A call to the public
Finally, the embassy called on citizens to stay informed through official channels and avoid falling for these types of scams. It also urged people to consider legal and safe migration routes, instead of resorting to illegal networks that endanger lives and property.
With this warning, authorities seek to prevent more salvadorans from falling victim to scams and making decisions that could have serious personal and family consequences.
