For thousands of salvadoran families, a remittance is not just money: it represents backing, support and the way in which a loved one from far away says “I am with you”. Aware of this reality, Walmart is launching “Buy with your Remittance”, a practical, safe, and convenient alternative that seeks to contribute to improving the quality of life of Salvadoran families and transforms the way in which customers can make the most of the money they receive from abroad.

For the first time in the region, customers can collect their remittance and pay for their purchases in a single transaction, without standing in line, without carrying cash, and with the peace of mind of doing it all in one place. This modality is already available at all Walmart, Despensa de Don Juan, Despensa Familiar and Maxi Despensa stores in the country, allowing greater access and convenience to families thanks to extended hours and operation 365 days a year.

“With this new option, Walmart seeks to provide peace of mind to those who send and receive remittances. We know that behind every remittance there is an immense effort and love for the family, and we want to make sure that this money arrives safely in the hands of each customer, and that it can be used for what matters most: the welfare of their home”, said Kathia Pastore, Walmart’s Financial Services Coordinator for Central America in El Salvador.

How does it work?
- When collecting their remittance at the store, the customer can either use it to pay for their purchases or just collect the remittance and receive the cash.
- If the remittance does not cover the total purchase, they can pay the difference with another method.
- If there is money left over, he receives the change at the cashier’s desk.
- You can also use the remittance to pay utilities such as water, electricity, or telephone.
- All in one transaction, fast and without additional lines.

“Offering everything in one place is part of our commitment. With this initiative, at Walmart we are helping each remittance to go further, because we understand the real value that every corner of the country has for our customers and their families. This solution, already active in Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, is part of a regional transformation to bring essential financial services closer to our customers”, concluded Kenny Araujo, Biformato Operations manager.
