To bring fresh, high-quality vegetables to the tables of salvadoran families, Walmart El Salvador continues to develop its Tierra Fértil program, which provides training and ongoing technical advice to local farmers who are part of the program.

One of them is José Manuel Larín, farmer of Finca y Beneficio El 98, located in the municipality of Juayúa, Sonsonate Norte. Initially dedicated to growing coffee, the farm diversified its production thanks to the support of Walmart, which promoted the planting of new crops such as radish.
Thanks to the program’s support, the farm went from harvesting 30 boxes of radish per week to a current production of 250 boxes per week. In addition, it now grows romaine lettuce, endive, cilantro, watercress, parsley, mint, basil, arugula, and kale.

José Manuel Larín emphasizes that Walmart’s support has been fundamental for the growth of his farm. “They have been with us every step of the way, from the proper use of soil to the safe handling of vegetables, good manufacturing practices and quality controls”, he said.
Larín also thanked the company for its constant support and encouraged other farmers to persevere, despite the challenges of climate change. “Walmart customers can be sure that the vegetables they find in its stores have been grown with high quality standards. In addition, I invite them to prefer local products”, she said.

Norma Alicia Santos, another farmer working on the farm with more than 12 years of experience, stresses the importance of replicating and maintaining the good practices promoted by Walmart. She works together with other producers to ensure that the products meet the quality requirements, with weekly supervisions.

Tierra Fértil, Walmart’s flagship program for the agricultural sector, seeks to support small and medium-sized producers by providing them with market access, direct purchases, and technical advice. This program has become a key platform for the sustainable development of local agriculture.
Walmart reiterates its commitment to agricultural SMEs, providing them with tools that strengthen their development, such as timely payments, greater market visibility and access to a broad network of consumers, thus helping to improve the quality of life of thousands of salvadoran families.
