With 60 votes in favor, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved the extension of the transitory provisions that regulate the energy charge to be billed to end users. This decision extends the validity of the measures until december 31, 2026.

The initiative, presented by the Executive Branch through the Ministry of Economy, seeks to contain a possible increase in electricity tariffs. It is intended to prevent external conditions from having a negative impact on the family economy.

The authorities explained that the macroeconomic, geopolitical, and climatic factors that, in april 2024, justified the creation of this temporary regulation persist. Therefore, they considered it urgent to extend its validity beyond july 14 of this year.
The General Directorate of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines will continue to oversee transferring the costs to the tariffs without generating a substantial increase in the bills. The aim is to protect lower income salvadoran households.

The legislators reaffirmed their commitment to protect citizens’ pockets from possible fluctuations in the energy market. With this decision, stability in the price of energy is guaranteed for an additional period of 18 months.
