El Salvador and the Kingdom of Norway are seeking to strengthen their economic relations and open new trade and investment opportunities, following the Second Political Consultations Meeting, a gathering in which both countries reviewed areas of common interest and possible mechanisms for expanding their cooperation.
The meeting was chaired by El Salvador’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, and the Director General of the Department of Regional Affairs at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Signe Brudeset. The meeting took place virtually and was also attended by El Salvador’s Ambassador to Norway, Claudia Beltrán.
One of the main economic issues addressed was the interest in boosting trade between the two markets. To this end, the delegations proposed identifying salvadoran products with the potential to enter the Norwegian market and expanding contacts between companies in both countries, with the goal of generating new business opportunities.
In addition to trade, El Salvador presented to the Norwegian delegation the strengths and advantages the country offers to attract foreign investment. Among the sectors identified as opportunities for Norwegian private capital are technology and artificial intelligence, manufacturing, tourism, infrastructure, and energy.
Technology and artificial intelligence are areas of particular interest due to their potential to generate new economic activities, drive innovation, and improve productivity. In addition, sectors such as tourism and infrastructure can benefit from new investment projects and closer ties with international companies.
In the energy sector, both countries also identified opportunities for cooperation and investment. Strengthening the energy mix is among El Salvador’s priorities, along with areas such as technological innovation, cybersecurity, and digital governance, which can also create opportunities for developing new capabilities and services.
Economic cooperation was also addressed from the perspective of human capital development. El Salvador proposed initiatives related to education and training, as well as the strengthening of academic exchanges between the diplomatic academies of both countries. The goal is to develop capabilities that will support new investment and growth opportunities in strategic sectors.
“This forum has allowed us to engage in a frank and constructive dialogue on the main issues on our bilateral agenda, identify new areas of common ground, and, most importantly, outline a roadmap aimed at translating our shared goals into concrete initiatives of mutual benefit”, said Deputy Foreign minister Adriana Mira. Through this collaboration, El Salvador and Norway aim to transform the identified areas into stronger trade ties, investment, and cooperation projects, thereby strengthening the economic relationship between the two countries.
