The deputies of the Finance Committee approved the incorporation of funds to the 2025 budget to strengthen the Dirección General de Aduanas, el Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transporte (MOPT) and local economic development. These amendments seek to improve infrastructure, modernize technological systems, and implement risk mitigation projects.

The General Customs Directorate will receive US$497,962 from a donation agreement with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to finance the installation of servers for transnational customs systems. In addition, the funds will cover the supervision and auditing of the project, enabling the modernization of customs processes.

Among the projects to be developed are the rehabilitation of protection walls at the El Poy border and the stabilization of the Las Pavas ravine, between Ilopango and Tonacatepeque.

US$2.4 million will be allocated to the Las Pavas ravine to stabilize a hydraulic bed and a fill slope, reducing the risk of landslides and erosion in the area. These actions seek to prevent damage to the existing infrastructure and guarantee the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
In addition, the MOPT will receive US$4.7 million from a loan with the Banco Internacional de Reconstrucción y Fomento (BIRF) to finance public investment projects within the framework of the Resilient Local Economic Development Project.

Among the actions contemplated are the reconstruction of markets, institutional strengthening, and training for municipalities in risk management and strategic planning. Also included are technical assistance and audits to ensure the correct execution of projects.
With these measures, the Government seeks to strengthen the country’s infrastructure, streamline customs processes and reduce vulnerability to natural disasters, while promoting local economic development.
