The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, announced that the Government of El Salvador will make the full payment of Christmas bonuses for 2025 today, thanks to a new law that allows for the early payment of this labor benefit. The measure includes all state institutions, autonomous institutions, and public companies, marking an unprecedented move that seeks to provide early financial relief to thousands of public sector employees.

This decision comes at a favorable time for national finances, as the State currently has cash surpluses that allow for the disbursement without compromising fiscal balance. Furthermore, the early payment represents an opportunity to boost the economy, as many workers will be able to access this extra income before the end-of-year holidays.

The new legal framework also allows private employers to make advance payments of bonuses if they so wish. However, it clarified that they must calculate them as if they were paid in december, assuming the corresponding risk in the event of an employee’s resignation. Otherwise, companies can choose to maintain the traditional payment date.

With this measure, the Government seeks to generate a positive impact on the national economy, encouraging domestic consumption and providing greater flexibility for both employees and employers. It was also emphasized that workers who prefer not to use their bonus immediately can leave it in their bank accounts.
