The Vice Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Óscar Domínguez, announced that the government plans to double the results achieved in 2025 through the Production Increase Program, an initiative aimed at strengthening food security and revitalizing the national agricultural sector.
The announcement followed a field tour of the country’s main agricultural production areas, where representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) observed the progress made during the program’s first year. Both institutions confirmed their support for the strategy and expressed optimism about the results seen on the ground.
According to the official, the goal for 2026 is to significantly expand the impact achieved, increasing domestic food production and reducing dependence on imports of strategic products. The strategy involves strengthening farmers’ productive capacity through technical assistance, on-site support, and improved access to inputs.
The Aumento a la Producción program is part of the actions promoted by President Nayib Bukele’s administration to consolidate food self-sufficiency and improve the resilience of the rural sector. According to Domínguez, the results obtained in the first year lay a solid foundation for accelerating growth in the second cycle.
The participation of international organizations such as the FAO and the WFP strengthens the program’s technical and strategic dimension by incorporating expertise in sustainable agricultural development, food security, and strengthening production chains. Their support also facilitates impact assessments and the implementation of best practices adapted to local conditions.
The government maintains that the projected increase in production will improve the incomes of farming families, expand the domestic food supply, and contribute to price stability. With the goal of doubling the results achieved last year, authorities plan to expand coverage, optimize processes, and consolidate strategic alliances that support the sustained growth of the agricultural sector.
