El Salvador has expanded its international connectivity with the arrival of the airline Iberojet, which officially launched operations in the country with a flight from Madrid, Spain, and the start of a new direct connection between San Salvador and Barcelona.
The opening of this route is part of strategies to strengthen the country’s air connectivity, facilitate the arrival of international visitors, and create new opportunities for economic sectors linked to tourism, trade, and services.
During the inauguration ceremony at the Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador, San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez, Federico Anliker, President of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), highlighted that Iberojet’s arrival reflects the confidence international companies continue to place in El Salvador for their operations.
The official noted that, in addition to the inaugural flight from Madrid, the airline is launching a direct connection to Barcelona, creating a new gateway for european travelers interested in visiting the country.
Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez described the opening of the new route as a historic milestone, stating that such partnerships help strengthen the national tourism industry and increase the number of international visitors.
According to the minister, the European market represents a strategic opportunity for El Salvador because these travelers tend to stay longer at their destinations, generating greater economic impact for hotels, restaurants, tour operators, shops, and other businesses in the sector.
Valdez also highlighted that improved air connectivity helps attract investment and strengthens the country’s image as a tourism and business destination by facilitating access from international markets with high growth potential.
Meanwhile, Mario Domínguez, Deputy Director of the Grupo Ávoris/Iberojet stated that the company is proud to begin operations in El Salvador and to directly connect Madrid, San Salvador, and Barcelona. With this new route, the country expands its links to Europe and strengthens a key tool for boosting tourism, economic activity, and international exchange.
