The arrival of the Norwegian Jade cruise ship at the port of Acajutla represents a new boost for El Salvador’s tourism economy, revitalizing key sectors such as commerce, transportation, gastronomy, and services, according to official information released by the Press Office.
The ship arrived with approximately 2,000 passengers and nearly 1,000 crew members, who are visiting various destinations throughout the country during their stay, generating direct and indirect income in the towns included in their itineraries.
According to Alejandra Durán, executive director of the Corporación Salvadoreña de Turismo, this cruise is part of the 2025-2026 season, being the 11th to arrive and the eighth so far in 2026. The official emphasized that this constant flow of visitors strengthens the country’s economic activity, especially in tourist areas.
One of the areas that has benefited most is the Historic Center of San Salvador, where more than 250 cruise ship passengers toured the city, marking a record number of visitors from this type of tourism. This increase reflects the area’s position as one of the preferred destinations for international tourists.

In addition, at least eight national tour operators are participating in serving the visitors, organizing routes to various destinations. This activity not only boosts tourism companies but also benefits guides, merchants, artisans, and small businesses that are part of the tourism value chain.
Among the places visited are Nahuizalco, Izalco, Cerro Verde Natural Park, downtown Sonsonate, and, once again, the Historic Center of San Salvador. These destinations combine culture, nature, and tradition—key elements for attracting international tourism.
The arrival of the Norwegian Jade is part of President Nayib Bukele’s government strategy to strengthen the tourism sector as an engine of economic growth. The recurring arrival of cruise ships contributes to increasing the flow of visitors, generating employment, and promoting the country’s image in international markets.

From an economic perspective, this type of tourism has an immediate impact, as visitors spend money on transportation, food, shopping, and recreational activities in a short period of time. Furthermore, it positions El Salvador as a competitive destination on cruise routes in the region.
With these results, the country continues to consolidate its tourism offerings and expand opportunities for economic development by attracting international visitors and strengthening its tourism industry.
