The price of the basic food basket continues to show signs of increasing in El Salvador. In june, the value in urban areas was US$253.05, with a daily cost of US$8.43 per family of 3.73 members. This figure was lower than the US$262.17 recorded in the same month in 2024, according to official data from the Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (ONEC).

However, the monthly increase was evident. Between may and june, the difference was US$4.83, driven by the increase in the price of French bread, tortillas, and various vegetables such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and cabbage.
In rural areas, the basic food basket reached US$184.56, the highest price in the last 16 months. Although slightly lower than the february peak of $185.16, it marks a rebound from the $179.74 reported in may.

The monthly variation in rural areas was US$4.82, primarily due to the increase in portions of tortillas and eggs. These basic products have been a determining factor in the price increases in communities outside urban areas.
Despite the upward trend, some items eased household spending. In certain areas of the country, decreases in the prices of rice and fruit were reported.

Authorities continue to monitor the evolution of the food market to ensure equitable access to essential products, amid a mixed price scenario that differentially impacts urban and rural areas.
