
The Comisión Trinacional del Plan Trifinio presented the results of the project “Development of Climate-Resilient Regional Value Chains”, an initiative that worked for three years to strengthen agricultural production and the resilience of rural communities in the region shared by El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
The presentation included the participation of El Salvador’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, and highlighted the progress achieved thanks to the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which backed the project’s implementation.
The initiative focused on strengthening water ecosystem services, a key element for the region’s productive activities and for the sustainability of communities that depend on agriculture as a source of income.

Furthermore, the project sought to generate greater economic opportunities for rural families by strengthening productive activities with growth and development potential in the trinational territory.
One of the main focuses was to increase the resilience of three agricultural value chains considered strategic for the Lempa River basin: coffee, avocado, and vegetables. These sectors play an important role in the rural economy and represent a source of employment and income for numerous families.
The actions developed during the three years of implementation were aimed at improving the capacity of these sectors to cope with the effects of climate change, contributing to more sustainable production with a greater likelihood of long-term viability.

During the presentation of results, authorities highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in promoting initiatives that benefit rural communities and strengthen economic activity in areas shared by the three countries.
With the project’s completion, the Comisión Trinacional del Plan Trifinio emphasized the progress achieved in strengthening the value chains of coffee, avocado, and vegetables, as well as in promoting conditions that contribute to generating rural income and increasing productive resilience in the Lempa River basin.
