The Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones (SIGET) informed through the Boletín Pliego Tariff Schedule that electricity tariffs in El Salvador will remain unchanged during the period from may 1 to july 31, 2025. This decision seeks to provide economic relief to salvadoran households, in accordance with the measures promoted by President Nayib Bukele.

The announcement guarantees that all consumers will pay the same rate as in the previous quarter. This measure is in addition to other government efforts to protect the population’s pocket, especially in a context of global inflation and price increases in energy inputs.
In addition, the government will continue to grant the subsidy to households that consume less than 105 kWh per month. This benefit has been key to maintaining access to electricity for the most vulnerable sectors and is part of the basic cost containment strategy.

The decision was made possible by the Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM), which postponed the tariff adjustment initially scheduled for april 15, moving it to may 1. This change was supported by a legislative decree approved in april 2024, which allows the DGEHM to set rates until july 14, 2025.

Prior to this reform, rates were adjusted every three months based on generation costs. The new approach seeks to provide greater predictability for end consumers and ensure a more equitable and controlled energy policy for the benefit of Salvadorans.
