El Salvador received 95,159 international visitors between july 31 and august 7, during the August vacation period, which represents a growth of 5.2% compared to the same period in 2025, when 90,454 tourists were registered.
The president of the Instituto Salvadoreño de Turismo (ISTU), Eny Aguiñada, highlighted this result during a radio interview, where she explained that the August holidays represent one of the most important seasons for the tourism sector due to the increase in the arrival of visitors and the mobilization to the different destinations in the country.
According to data shared by Aguiñada, Guatemala was the main country of origin for international tourists, with more than 32,000 visitors during this period. The United States came in second place, with more than 31,000 tourists, while Honduras registered more than 19,000. The rest of the world contributed 10,969 visitors.
The greater presence of Guatemalan tourists reflects the importance of the region’s markets for salvadoran tourism, especially during vacation periods. The proximity between both countries facilitates travel and encourages more people to choose to visit the tourist destinations of El Salvador.
The official also highlighted that the country registered a record attendance in public places during these holidays. In total, more than 3.266 million visitors were recorded, compared to approximately 2.87 million registered the previous year.
Within these results, SivarLand received more than 1.4 million visitors, while the Historic Center of San Salvador exceeded one million people in the different activities carried out during the period. The tourist sites managed by the ISTU registered 223,091 visitors.
Among the most visited recreational parks were Apulo, which ranked first; Amapulapa, in San Vicente; the Cerro Verde Natural Park; the Puerta del Diablo Natural Park, and the Ichanmichen Recreational Park, in Zacatecoluca.
Aguiñada pointed out that these spaces have left behind the image of neglected places and are currently part of the country’s tourist offer, with a commitment to the conservation of natural heritage and the use of its flora and fauna resources.
The tourist movement was also reflected in programs such as Buses Alegres, which registered more than 1,500 users during the holidays. In addition, multi-destination routes allowed families to visit different tourist attractions within the same route.
The president of the ISTU also highlighted the performance of the Historic Center of San Salvador, whose revitalization has allowed it to maintain a sustained influx of visitors through cultural activities, gastronomy and guided tours in spaces such as the Teatro Nacional, Palacio Nacional and the BINAES.
The results of the August vacations thus reflect a 5.2% increase in the arrival of international visitors, with Guatemala as the main issuing market, contributing more than 32,000 tourists. Added to this is the high influx registered in parks, tourist sites and public spaces, evidencing the strong movement that the holiday season generated in the country’s tourist activity.
