The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has given its initial approval for a US$22 million loan to transform the public transport system in the San Salvador metropolitan area. This historic project seeks to implement an electronic payment system that will modernize the way citizens use the service.

The investment includes the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and software, as well as an ambitious sustainable mobility plan that will benefit thousands of users daily.
The loan will be executed directly by the Ministry of Public Works and has a term of 25 years, with a generous grace period of five and a half years. This financial structure allows for gradual and sustainable implementation, ensuring that funds are used efficiently for the development of the necessary infrastructure and technology. The initiative represents a long-term commitment to improving the quality of life of salvadorans.

In addition to the payment system, the project includes the creation of a data intelligence center that will enable more efficient traffic and route management. Significant road safety works are also planned for key corridors such as the Comalapa highway and the Troncal del Norte. These improvements aim to reduce accidents and ensure safer travel for all citizens.
This loan is in addition to other government efforts to modernize transportation, such as the acquisition of new vehicles that will soon be in circulation in the country. The goal is to offer a more modern, comfortable, and safe service that meets the needs of the population. The integration of these projects is expected to bring about a complete transformation of the sector.

The population will benefit directly from the implementation of this project, as the electronic payment system will bring greater efficiency and transparency to transactions. This will eliminate the handling of cash and reduce waiting times, improving the user experience.
