More than 1,000 homes in 16 communities in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area will be improved thanks to an investment of €23 million (approximately US$27 million) as part of the Urban Adaptation to Climate Change Program in Central America, supported by the German bank KfW.
The initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Housing, aims to strengthen the resilience of communities to the effects of climate change and guarantee decent living conditions for salvadoran families.
During a visit to the Villa Kiwanis community in Soyapango, Housing minister Michelle Sol, explained that the first phase will focus on 337 homes in five communities: La Naval, Villa Kiwanis, Nicaragua 2, La Chacra, and Quiñónez 1, where improvements will be made to roofs, walls, windows, doors, and floors.
The second phase will encompass 11 more communities, including Casitas del Coro, San Martín, La Campanera, and Nueva Esperanza, thus expanding the program’s impact.
The german Ambassador to El Salvador, Friedo Sielemann, emphasized that the funds will also allow for the development of projects in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Works to reduce damage from floods and landslides.
This investment strengthens the collaborative work between El Salvador and Germany, focused on promoting safer, more sustainable, and more resilient communities in the face of climate challenges.
