The Ministerio de Obras Públicas (MOP) completed and delivered the works to eliminate four gullies in the Distrito Italia of Tonacatepeque, with an investment of more than US$3 million. This investment has not only safeguarded the assets of hundreds of families but has also allowed for the recovery and repaving of lost streets, ensuring mobility and the value of more than 9,000 square meters of land. The works correct a historical structural risk caused by poor stormwater design, transforming an area of constant threat into a space of security and economic confidence.

Investment as a guarantee of assets
The execution of these works was based on an investment of US$3 million to eliminate the four gullies that threatened the lives and assets of residents. According to minister Romeo Herrera, the instability of the land worsened each winter, generating fear of losing their homes, which devalued the entire area’s property values.
By carrying out slope stabilization, drainage, and channeling works, the State guarantees a return on families’ real estate investments, avoiding losses due to the risk of landslides and ensuring soil stability.

Road infrastructure recovery and mobility improvement
A key economic component of this project was the recovery of road infrastructure. Minister Herrera highlighted that part of the street that had been lost due to the formation of gullies was recovered and repaved.
This action directly improves residents’ mobility and the district’s connectivity, which has a positive impact on local commercial activity and the urban quality of life. The investment not only stops the damage but also enhances the value of the existing infrastructure.

Comprehensive security as a factor for development
The minister emphasized that families in the Distrito Italia were insecure for two reasons: crime and gullies. By addressing the infrastructure risk, the State complements citizen security policies, creating an environment of complete trust for social and economic development. Additionally, the construction of a CUBO (Center for Urban Development) on the site was announced, a project that will boost social and educational development.
