The historic center of the salvadoran capital is experiencing a new tourist and commercial boom, thanks to the support provided by President Nayib Bukele’s government to the area’s merchants. Before the president’s arrival, the area was marked by crime, pollution, poverty, and disorder; a reality that has changed with security measures and investment in revitalization.
Adriana Larín, director general of the Autoridad del Centro Histórico de San Salvador (ACH), emphasized that the opening of new establishments and the modernization of existing businesses have been decisive factors in boosting the local economy. Added to this are cultural activities that, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, keep the heart of the city alive.
“The opening of new establishments and the improvement of businesses that have contributed to the revitalization of the historic center have greatly boosted tourism, in addition to the work being done with the Ministry of Culture to keep activities always active”, Larín said.
The ACH has a specialized unit for training entrepreneurs, with the goal of enabling them to respond to the new demand generated by tourism. Likewise, tax and municipal incentives have been implemented for investors, such as exemption from Income Tax (ISR) and municipal fees for up to 10 years.
The official also highlighted the importance of international events such as the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games, held in the country from september 5 to 14 on the beaches of La Libertad, which places El Salvador on the world tourism map. According to Larín, these types of tournaments not only attract athletes but also visitors looking to explore the historic center and other areas of the country.
The salvadoran government thus reaffirms its commitment to restoring splendor to San Salvador’s historic center, promoting its consolidation as a hub for economic, cultural, and tourism development.
