The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved, with 57 votes, the subscription of a $235 million loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to develop the Programa de Salud Inteligente e Integral (PROSINT). This program aims to improve the health of the population, focusing on chronic non-communicable diseases, through the implementation of a comprehensive care and management model, both physical and digital, in the country’s health services network.
The initiative reinforces the salvadoran government’s commitment to raise the level of health of the population, increase efficiency in medical services and expand the coverage of specialties. It also seeks to strengthen hospital infrastructure to make it more resilient and environmentally sustainable.
Of the total loan, US$50 million will be used to implement a Digital Health Model. In turn, US$142.35 million will be invested in strengthening health resilience at different levels and expanding specialized health coverage.
Another US$23.80 million will be allocated to strengthen the network of support services and emergency response, while US$9.35 million will be earmarked for strengthening health institutions. Finally, US$9.50 million will be used for program administration, evaluation, and auditing to ensure the program’s proper functioning and transparency.
This loan represents an important step forward in the salvadoran government’s efforts to improve the quality of and access to health services, ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable approach over the long term.
