The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to transparency and accountability by announcing the creation of a new open data platform, an innovative resource aimed at journalists and researchers. This portal seeks to transform access to economic and social information, allowing the Bank’s data to be converted into in-depth analysis, impactful reporting, and rigorous studies. The initiative is part of the activities of Transparency and Access to Information Month.

This launch represents the fulfillment of one of the commitments of CABEI’s new Access to Information Policy (PAI), in effect since july 2025. The main objective is to offer a reliable and structured tool that facilitates investigative journalism and the generation of knowledge about the region’s development. The platform is also aligned with the 2025–2029 Institutional Strategy, which emphasizes transparency as a fundamental pillar of the Bank’s management.

CABEI Executive President Gisela Sánchez said that the platform is a “firm step” in its commitment to accountability, directly connecting with the Bank’s institutional strategy. Honduras Director Belinda Carías Martínez emphasized the importance of proactive information as a development tool, stating that this resource will enable journalists and researchers to contribute solutions for countries in the region.
As part of the launch, CABEI also announced a special contest for journalists and researchers who use the new platform. The aim of the contest is to recognize work that, through analysis of the Bank’s open data, highlights its contribution to sustainable development and regional integration. The goal is to encourage constructive journalism that demonstrates how open information can be a driver of knowledge.

The contest invites professionals to transform data into impactful stories, showing how transparency and access to information can become tools for progress in societies. Details and rules for participating in the contest will be presented during the webinar “Journalism and Research for Development: CABEI’s New Open Data Platform”.
