The Government of El Salvador continues to strengthen its strategic vision of turning El Salvador International Airport into a regional connectivity hub, with the significant progress of the expansion and modernization project of the Check-in area. This development seeks not only to increase the airport’s operational capacity, but also to attract new airlines and facilitate access to additional destinations, consolidating the country as a reference in air transportation in the region.
The work has reached 86% completion and includes the construction of a total of 7,160 square meters. Once completed, the area will have 122 service points, which will reduce waiting times for passengers and avoid saturation. The addition of new counters and offices for the airlines will improve service and optimize check-in and boarding processes, offering a more agile and comfortable experience for travelers.
Highlights of this phase of the project include the installation of advanced baggage handling systems with conveyor belts and metal structures for overhead conveyors. In addition, stations for the fire detection and alarm system have been implemented, as well as connections for electrical outlets in airline offices, restrooms, and kiosks. These improvements are aimed at ensuring efficient and safe operation at the air terminal.
The work has also included plating, plastering and concrete pouring in various areas, as well as touch-up painting in airline offices, highlighting the care taken in every detail of the project. These interventions not only modernize the space, but also ensure the long-term durability and functionality of the facilities.
With the completion of the project, El Salvador International Airport will be better prepared to respond to the growing demand for passengers and international connections. This effort reinforces the Salvadoran government’s commitment to provide world-class infrastructure, positioning the country as a key commercial aviation hub in the region.
