The Legislative Assembly’s Finance and Special Budget Committee met this monday with representatives of the Ministry of Finance to analyze and approve a loan request signed with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for up to US$150 million. This initiative, called the “Complete Educational Pathways and their Resilience to Climate Change Program“, seeks to strengthen the public education system from preschool to high school.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the loan funds will be used to improve access, coverage, and quality of public education nationwide. Its main components include the expansion of school infrastructure, with the construction and equipping of new educational centers, as well as the improvement of pedagogical practices to strengthen the teaching-learning process.
The program also includes educational inclusion initiatives aimed at ensuring that students with disabilities can access, remain, and advance in the education system. In addition, measures will be implemented to facilitate the school reintegration of children and adolescents who have returned to the country, ensuring they can continue their studies in appropriate and safe conditions.
Another objective of the project is to strengthen educational management capacities by incorporating climate change mitigation and adaptation measures into institutional planning. Following approval by the Finance Committee, the loan request will be included on the agenda of the next plenary session, where ratification by the full legislature is expected.
