The Government of El Salvador has made significant progress in housing policy, reflected in an investment of US$123.74 million in extraordinary assets for the placement of 9,308 homes previously owned by criminal organizations. Housing minister Michelle Sol emphasized that these results are the result of coordinated efforts among various institutions, made possible by the current security situation in the country.
Minister Sol noted that the work of the Fondo Social para la Vivienda (FSV) has been instrumental in this achievement. Through various credit lines, more than 11,000 loans for new housing have been granted, with a value of US$404.94 million. In addition, US$449.47 million has been allocated to 22,926 loans for the purchase of used homes, demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to the needs of salvadoran families.
The Ministry of Housing focuses not only on financing but also on land legalization. To date, the Property Legalization Directorate has regularized more than 70,000 plots, providing legal certainty to thousands of families. This process guarantees that those who have waited for years can legally own their land, a crucial step for the security and well-being of communities.
An emblematic case in this effort has been that of ARGOZ, where the Ministry has assumed the technical work to bring justice to families who were victims of real estate irregularities. Michelle Sol reiterated that each regularized lot represents a victory, a milestone that benefits families who have fought for a decent and legal home in a safer country.
The minister concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to continue working so that more salvadorans have access to decent housing of their own. The goal is clear: every family must have the opportunity to build a home with the support of the State, in an environment of peace and legality.
