With 57 votes in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved the addition of US$13 million to the Ministry of Economy’s budget to promote innovation, digitalization, and technological manufacturing projects in El Salvador. The funds come from a reallocation made by the Ministry of Finance.

This investment seeks to strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of various economic sectors, as well as promote sustainable development based on technology. The contemplated projects include digital platforms, high-value-added industrial processes, and digital skills training programs.
The measure is in addition to a favorable legal framework, which includes the Technological Innovation and Manufacturing Law and the Law for the Promotion of Artificial Intelligence, as well as the recent creation of the National Artificial Intelligence Agency. These instruments provide an enabling environment for technological development.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the goal is to position the country as a regional innovation hub, attracting foreign investment and promoting local entrepreneurship. The commitment to digital transformation also seeks to generate quality jobs.
The approved funds will be implemented in stages, prioritizing strategic projects that have a high impact on the economy and contribute to closing the technological gap in the country.
