El Salvador is advancing its economic transformation with large-scale strategic projects. As part of this vision, it has focused on modernizing Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez”, with an initial investment of US$47.2 million for the second phase. The main objective is to consolidate it as the safest and most efficient airport in the Central American region, thereby boosting the country’s economy.

The second stage of the airport modernization plan began with the laying of the first stone for the new baggage claim, immigration, and customs terminal. This project responds to the notable growth in air travel demand and seeks to offer a first-class infrastructure to all travelers, significantly improving their experience upon entering the country.

The work, financed with funds from the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), will enable seven additional baggage carousels, for a total of eleven. This will increase the capacity to handle up to 10,500 bags per hour, streamlining passenger flow and significantly improving the travel experience.

CEPA President Federico Anliker highlighted that this phase, which will last for the next four years, will involve a total investment of more than US$245 million. The plan includes the expansion of the passenger terminal, the construction of a parking building, the renovation of the airport’s facade, and the addition of high-capacity escalators and elevators.

Tourism minister Morena Valdez underscored the importance of this modernization for the tourism sector, which is projected to receive around four million visitors this year. A high-quality airport is key to projecting a good image and promoting tourism growth in the country.

Tourism growth and economic revitalization are part of the government’s vision, which is why it will continue to make the necessary investments in quality projects for the country’s development.
