The deputies of the Treasury Commission unanimously approved an amendment to the 2025 Budget to incorporate US$157,745,589 from an external loan destined to the Public Works and Transportation sector. The funds will be used by the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) for the construction of the Aeropuert del Pacífico in La Unión.
The financing will enable the execution of earthworks, runway paving, and other key contracts for the project.

“It is essential to provide CEPA with the necessary resources to move forward with this project in 2025”, said Congressman William Soriano. CEPA’s technical advisor, Alexander López, recalled that the funds were approved in october 2024 and will allow for 60% to 70% progress on the earthworks.
The distribution of the money contemplates three items. First, US$11,302,600 will be used to modernize the Ilopango airport, including the rehabilitation of the runway and the construction of hangars. This is intended to strengthen its operation and provide greater capacity for civil and commercial aviation.
US$143,242,989, will be used for the Pacific international airport. These funds will be used to continue paving the runway and other infrastructure necessary for its operation. It is estimated that in the first phase, the airport will receive 300,000 passengers and 2,000 flights per year.
In addition, US$3,200,000 will be allocated to strengthening the project’s institutional and executing unit. These resources will cover technical support, external audits, and administrative expenses necessary to guarantee the proper execution of the plan, and with the approved financing, the project will move towards its materialization in the coming years.
