The Ministry of Finance informed that the Tax Amnesty 2024 was approved with 57 votes, which will grant facilities to insolvent taxpayers to comply with their tax obligations, customs and other fines, in order to facilitate voluntary compliance with their tax obligations.
The insolvent taxpayers will have 90 days before the General Directorate of Internal Taxes, the General Directorate of Customs and the General Directorate of the Treasury to catch up with the Treasury, exempting them from interest, surcharges and fines.
In addition, they will have the opportunity to apply for a payment plan of up to nine installments, the first one corresponding to a premium of 10% of the amount owed.
An additional benefit included in the law is for salvadorans who owe fines related to the Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety Law. For these, the surcharges will be exempted, but not the amount of the fines.
Taxpayers who have tax returns or goods registered in previous fiscal periods, whose date or term to liquidate or file the return has expired until july 31, 2024, will be able to enjoy this benefit.
