The Legislative Assembly approved, with 59 votes, an amendment to the 2026 General State Budget Law to allocate US$208,445 to the Ministerio de Desarrollo Local (MINDEL). The funds will be used to carry out infrastructure improvements at a building in San Miguel, which houses the administrative offices and product analysis laboratory of the División de Asistencia Alimentaria (DAA).
According to the approved amendment, these resources were allocated because MINDEL does not have a budget structure specifically for investment projects, making the budget modification necessary to finance the works.
The building is used to store food and other supplies for school meals and to aid vulnerable individuals during emergencies. However, the facilities are in a state of disrepair and require renovations to ensure their proper functioning. As stated during the approval process, the state of the infrastructure also poses a risk to the safety of the personnel working at the site and could affect the development of activities related to the storage, analysis, and distribution of products.

Of the total approved amount, US$153,538.14 will be allocated to the construction of a new administrative area and a laboratory within the Food Assistance Division’s warehouse. These works aim to improve the conditions under which food analysis and management processes are carried out.
In addition, US$44,418 will be invested in exterior works, including the construction of access walkways to the administrative offices and improvements to the restrooms. An additional US$1,093 will be allocated for the demolition and dismantling of infrastructure that is no longer usable.

Finally, the project includes an investment of US$9,395 for the construction of infiltration trenches and septic tanks, work that will contribute to the proper management of wastewater and the improved functioning of the facilities.
These improvements aim to strengthen the infrastructure of MINDEL’s División de Asistencia Alimentaria, ensuring safer and more suitable spaces for the storage and control of products used in food assistance programs and emergency response efforts.
