El Salvador was elected by acclamation by the entire membership of the United Nations General Assembly to serve on the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the 2026-2027 term during the 61st plenary session of the UN General Assembly on friday, december 12, 2025.
El Salvador is proud to be appointed to the PBC, an intergovernmental advisory body of the UN, comprised of 31 member states. Established in 2005, the PBC is mandated to advise and support countries affected by conflict and those transitioning towards peacebuilding and peacekeeping, formulating recommendations and providing support to ensure lasting peace processes.

The selection of El Salvador reflects the international community’s confidence in the contribution the country can make based on its direct experience in social transformation, the sustained reduction of violence, and the rebuilding of the social fabric. Our country has implemented comprehensive public policies in the areas of security, prevention, employment, investment, health, and education, aimed at promoting stability, social cohesion, and opportunities for the entire population. This comprehensive approach is now recognized as a relevant model for other contexts undergoing recovery and institutional strengthening.
Furthermore, El Salvador has demonstrated its commitment through its participation in the deployment of military troops and police forces in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Likewise, this commitment is reflected in our work and close collaboration with various UN agencies and bodies on initiatives for institutional strengthening, social cohesion, the empowerment of women and youth, economic development, and human mobility.
As a member of the Commission, El Salvador will contribute to the formulation of international recommendations and strategies for peacebuilding and post-conflict recovery, as well as to providing information to improve coordination among all relevant UN entities and other key actors in various peace processes.
With this election, El Salvador consolidates its presence in key multilateral forums, reaffirming its commitment to actively contributing to international peace and security, and as a reliable partner dedicated to building a more stable and equitable global order.
