Residents and drivers who travel daily between San Martín and Cojutepeque will soon have a road in better condition, thanks to the start of rehabilitation work on 17 kilometers of the Pan-American Highway, announced by the minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, along with the Executive Director of the Fondo de Conservación Vial (FOVIAL), Alexander Beltrán. This project seeks to improve connectivity and road safety for thousands of people who use this important corridor between the east and center of the country.

According to the Executive Director of FOVIAL, the work will be carried out at night, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., with partial closures that will maintain traffic flow and reduce inconvenience to users. “We are simultaneously servicing three points with specialized pavement recycling equipment. These efforts will significantly improve the travel experience and driver safety”, Beltrán emphasized.

The work consists of restoring 2.5 centimeters of the existing asphalt mix, incorporating additives that rejuvenate the pavement to extend its useful life. In addition, the material will be recycled on-site, allowing the current asphalt layer to be used and reducing the environmental impact of the process. This technique includes the use of scarifiers, homogenizing agents, and a new asphalt layer placed and compacted over the recycled material to ensure a more resistant and durable surface.

With the construction of this important road, the Ministerio de Obras Públicas and FOVIAL continue to strengthen the country’s road network, promoting local development, commerce, and connectivity between municipalities. The work will directly benefit thousands of families, transporters, and entrepreneurs who depend on this highway for transportation, thus contributing to a more modern, efficient, and safe infrastructure.
